lots of dots

All cultures have art. We don't always know the meaning of their art, or why they do what they do, but it is always interesting to see, learn about, and find inspiration in the art of other cultures. The indigenous peoples of Australia have been creating artwork in many forms for hundreds of years. The most famous type of indigenous art created today is what is called Aboriginal Dot Painting.  These paintings are rooted in very secretive customs and traditions that are important to the their people. Outsiders are not supposed to know their meaning.  Based on artwork created in sand during ceremonies, today's modern "dot" paintings are beautiful but secretive. The dots camouflage the important symbols that mean something to their painters.  Inspired by this idea, we created drawing of symbols that represented something important or something we liked. We painted our pictures in bright colors and then used dots to pattern and camouflage our artwork.  Like the Mexican Folk Art lesson, we were not trying to copy or be like the original artists, but simply show how they inspire us to create our own artwork.

Here are some of their works of art!
